Farm Works is proud to announce the release of it's all new X2 product, also known as Version 12. The changes are a true breakthrough in software technology that will completely revolutionize the industry. Some examples can be seen below (some screen shots taken from US installation, UK/Metric option available).

#1 - Automatic Online Registrations

Farm Works introduces a new method for software registrations. No longer will customers be forced to call or fax requests to activate their software. X2 allows you to register online within the software program. Simply select the “Get registered immediately with the online registration service” (highlighted in the red box) and start using the software. Never worry about typing registration numbers to activate the software or trying to contact Farm Works during non-business hours.

#2 - New Interface for Field Records & Mapping

Farm Works will be unveiling a new interface. The simplified and improved interface will make navigation easier and reduce the number of steps to complete a task. A new “Farm/Field/Job Tree” (highlighted in the red box) is designed to reduce the number of steps necessary to find a field and associated jobs and maps.

#3 - Create Fields without a Map

In the previous versions of Farm Works, a boundary had to be created in order to record crop records. This could be done by hand-drawing fields, tracing aerial photos, importing yield data, or by importing a field boundary. Even though these features are still included in X2, field records can now be entered without a map. By using the “Farm/Field/Job Tree” feature in X2, users can simply select the farm name and choose New Field.

#4 - Mapped, Legal, and Tillable Acres

Farm Works X2 will have the ability to add three types of acres to a field.

  1. Mapped Acres is computed based on the boundary for the field. If the boundary is created with GPS, this will represent the GPS Acres.
  2. Legal Acres is the total legally reported acres for the field
  3. Tillable Acres is the total area currently being farmed

#5 - Automated Downloading and Installation of Updates

The automated updating feature verifies you have all the recent updates for Farm Works X2 by a click of a button. As updates are released for Farm Works X2, the user will have the feature to select “Check for Updates…”. Once selected from the drop-down list, Farm Works will detect your version and download and install all available updates.

#6 - Equipment Service Records

Service records on equipment can now be recorded. By entering meter information below, the equipment service feature will remind you of oil changes or other maintenance items that may be overlooked. All records can be printed on the “Fleet Management” report, which is also another new feature in Farm Works X2.

#7 - Smart Import Wizard

Importing yield and various maps will be much quicker and with fewer steps. No longer will you have to worry about assigning layers to the yield map. With a fewer clicks of the mouse, the import wizard will import all the data like you have never seen before.

#8 - Automatic Unit of Measure Conversion

The unit conversion between “Purchased Units” and “Distributed Units” will now be an automated process. In the prior versions of Farm Works, this number had to be converted by the user. Also, the “Default Application Rate” will allow the user to enter default rates when applying the supply to a field or when creating a variable rate application map.

#10 - Nutrient Fill List for Fertilizers

All nutrients in the Fertilizer Tab are entered for you. Also, the Product Weight area is automated based on your “Purchased Unit” and “Distributed Unit”. In the prior versions of Farm Works, this number had to be entered by the user.

#11 - Polygon Mapping Tool
(for drawing fields and areas)

Farm Works X2 offers new mapping tools. The Includes Polygon Mapping Tool will eliminate the “gap” problem forever. When tracing around areas, such as fields, this tool automatically closes the boundary for you.

#12 - Polygon Mapping Tool
(for cutting out holes or objects from fields)

Farm Works X2 offers another powerful tool that works in conjunction with the Includes Polygon Mapping Tool. The Excludes Polygon Mapping Tool allows you to cut out areas of the field such as ponds, waterways, or landmarks.

#13 - Cancel Mapping Tool and Undo Feature

In Edit mode, the Cancel Mapping Tool allows you to cancel what you have mapped in order to start over without saving. The “Undo” feature will allow a one-step backup while using any of the mapping tools. Simply right-click and select “Undo” to correct the mistake.

#14 - Simplified Enterprising

No longer worry about closing and opening enterprises for each field. The simplified enterprising only will ask the year and crop for the farming action, thus reducing the chance of making mistakes.   What's more, if you assign a farming action to the wrong enterprise, all you need to do is edit it and change the enterprise.

#15 - Automated Commodity Properties

Another important feature is the automated commodity properties. Once you select the commodity from the drop-down list, the program is smart enough to know the units, density, and moisture for each. The program is flexible enough to allow any unit of harvest, however, it will default to the most common one. The “Value” area is also new to Farm Trac or Farm Trac/Farm Site users. By entering the “Market Value” per harvest unit, the program will give you an approximate profit/loss per field without purchasing Farm Funds.

#16 - Hour Calculator

When entering field records in Farm Works X2, there is a “smart” hour calculator. If entering a start and stop date and time, the program will calculate the hours on equipment and personnel. Better records while reducing data entry.

#17 - Job Summary Tab

The Job Summary Tab offers a brand new interface for viewing, exporting, printing, deleting, and editing crop records. Quickly navigate and sort for any record that has been entered.

#18 - Editing Farm Funds Transactions

Payments & Purchases as well as Income, Sales, & Deposits can be edited from the Account Register by clicking on the Edit button next to each transaction.

The Edit window looks like a Sale/Purchase window with light green coloured spreadsheet (like editing farming operations).

For transactions that do not show on the Account register, the Void Previous Purchase/Sale and the Edit Purchase/Sales Dates dialogs have been replaced by a the new Transaction Maintenance dialog.

#19 - Smart Auto Draw

The Smart Auto Draw feature in Farm Works X2 significantly reduces the number of steps in creating a field boundary based off of a yield map. Select the Auto Draw Button and no questions asked.

#20 - Improved Farm Funds Transaction Templates

Transaction templates are a very vital part of Farm Funds. Farm Works X2 just made creating and retrieving templates that much easier. Every transaction is essentially a Template for a future transaction.

Select a vendor and click the new “Load Transaction Info…” button. A list-box of Templates and previous transactions appears. Choose one and click OK. The dialog is filled out with the information from the selected transaction / template. Make changes and record.

#21 - Importing Yield & Application Maps Creates Field Records

Yield maps are an important part of your farm management.  However, it's just as important to have field histories that include harvest records.  Additionally, these harvest records should be tied in with accounting records so you can keep track of bin inventories.  With Version X2, when you import a yield map, Farm Works will automatically update your field records in Farm Trac.  If you are using Farm Funds, importing the yield map will automatically add the harvest to your inventories to update your accounting and bin records!

When yield data is imported, Farm Works will create a record of the harvest that will be listed in the "Job" tab.  These records can be edited so that the harvest can be assigned to a storage location (such as a grain bin).  Additionally, you can assign people and equipment to the field record so you have a complete field history of the harvest!

#22 - Multiple, Separate Polygons can make up a Single Field

Prior versions of Farm Works had issues when a landmark divided a field. A common example is when you have a field divided by a waterway or road. Both fields have the same name, yet they are not connected. Farm Works X2 solves this problem by the way it handles the boundary layer.   With X2, a field can be represented by any number of separate polygon areas.

#23 - Viewing Past Crop Zones

Farm Works X2 allows you to create "Crop Zones" that can be separate from a field boundary.  With X2 the field boundary should be a relatively permanent boundary that does not change from year to year.  Crop Zones represent the boundaries of the crop(s) within that field.  These can be the same as the boundary or they can be different such as when a field is split with different crops.  What's more is that X2 will store these crop zones with the records for that year so you can always go back and see what the zones were in past crop years

#24 - Quick Zooming Techniques

Quickly zoom to any farm or field by using the “Farm/Field/Job Tree” to the left. Farm Works X2 can easily navigate around the map by a click of the mouse. If you wish to view a farm, select the farm name and only the fields will appear for that farm.

#25 - Symbols for Markers

Symbols are a brand new feature in Farm Works X2. A wide selection of symbols can be selected as flags or markers. A common example would be when importing yield data in Farm Site or Site Pro. If the yield data was recorded with markers (showing rocks, weeds, etc.), these will now appear with a different symbol for each marker.

#26 - Commodity-Specific Legends

When importing yield data into Farm Site or Site Pro, default legends can be set for each commodity.

#27 - New “View Tree”

The brand new “View Tree” locates and sorts your favourite view for any layer in Farm Site or Site Pro. The new interface for views makes it simple to delete or change a view.

#28 - Print Preview of Maps

Printing maps has been revamped in Farm Works X2. When the “print” button is selected, a print preview of the map appears. This gives you the opportunity to view the map and confirm the layout. Another unique feature is the additional data on the report when printing yield maps.

#29 - New Report Export Formats

Farm Works X2 reports are very flexible and can be exported to various formats. Such formats include PDF, Microsoft Excel or Word documents, or HTML. All reports will display an “Export” button.

#30 - Attributes on Lines

Attributes on lines are a huge feature in Farm Works X2. If you are importing a line file that contains attributes (such as tile lines), Farm Works X2 will automate the legend for you. This means it will display a legend for each attribute that was logged on the line file. The example below shows the diameter of the tile line, yet we can select the length in the “View Tree” to see this too.

#31 - Updated Enterprise Statement Report

A new and improved enterprise statement is available in Farm Works X2. The report is easier to view and contains more information. If you have pictures of equipment or personnel loaded into the software, these too will appear on the statement.

#32 - Revised Layer Display Feature

The layer display feature located in Farm Site or Site Pro received a face-lift in Farm Works X2. If you have multiple layers displayed on the map area, the layer display feature will create tabs for each layer for editing.

The image below illustrates access to all the layers when this feature is used. Prior versions of Farm Works only displayed this option for one layer at a time.

#33 - Transparency Feature

Farm Works X2 offers a new transparency feature when viewing multiple layers in Farm Site or Site Pro. This is particularly useful when manually creating zones for variable rate prescription maps.

#34 - Supports XML Format

The FODM XML file allows users to transfer jobs from machine to machine, project to project, or user to user. Each file contains all the data about that job so that when it is imported all the data we have about each job is not lost. We see this as the way Site Pro and Farm Works Office products can exchange jobs.

#35 - New Smoothing Bar for Average and Contour Maps

When creating average and contour views in Farm Site or Site Pro, the smoothing bar eliminates extreme high and low values.   By increasing the amount of smoothing, the program will look at values from surrounding areas when computing the value to use at any spot on the map.  This will result in isolated high and low values being smoothed out and blended into surrounding areas

#36 - Added Support for Shape 3D and Shape M data files

X2 will import the data for Shape 3D and Shape M data files. These files are the same as the “normal” shape files that we are typically used to, except that they have an X, Y, and Z value for each coordinate. We do not do anything with the Z component. The extensions are the same .shp, .dbf, .shx.

#37 - Supports Reading and Writing Data from AGCO GTA & Fieldstar Terminals

Farm Works X2 will support a wide range of AGCO products. The AGCO Fieldstar and Task Controller are examples of hardware products that X2 will support.

#38 - Prescription Map Designer Tool

Farm Works X2 will introduce a new prescription map designer tool for Farm Site and Site Pro. Creating prescription maps for variable rate will be simple and quick. The designer tool will not be formula based, however, the user will be able to point and click the areas to assign rates. The feature will be swift and user-friendly.

#39 - Variable Rate Summary Feature

If using Farm Works X2 to generate prescription maps in Farm Site or Site Pro, the software will give you the total quantity needed to complete the job. The software will also give you an approximate cost based on the values entered.

#40 - Fuel Usage Automatically Computed for Burn Rates

Farm Works X2 will now compute fuel usage based on a burn rate. When setting up equipment, the option for “Fuelable” can be selected. A “Fuelable” piece of equipment allows you to enter a burn rate per hour or acre. The burn rate will automatically be computed and posted on the enterprise statement and equipment reports.

#41 - Shape Files can be directly Imported to Create Field Boundary

Arc View Shape Files that contain a field boundary can easily be converted to a Farm Works field boundary in X2. Prior versions of Farm Works allowed you to import Shape Files containing field boundaries, however, there were many steps to convert it to a useable boundary for crop record-keeping. With Farm Works X2, simply select the field name from the “Farm/Field/Job Tree” and select “Import Boundaries”. Click on the Shape File name and X2 will do the rest for you.

#42 - Equipment Fleet Management Reports

New equipment reports have been added to Farm Works X2. A total of four equipment reports have been added.

  1. Fleet Management
  2. Equipment Usage- Averages (shown below)
  3. Equipment Usage- Job Details
  4. Equipment Usage- Totals

#43 - Split Polygon Tool

The Split Polygon Tool is another new mapping tool found in Farm Works X2. This tool allows you to take a current polygon (such as a field boundary) and easily split it into more than one polygon.

#44 - Shape File Import Customisation

Farm Works X2 has the ability to select certain attributes to import from a Shape File. There are many times when it is worthless to import every attribute from a Shape File. A common example is when importing a soil type map. This feature will also allow you to select a unit of measure for any attribute. The purpose of this is to tie the shape file back to a crop record in the future. The example below demonstrates someone importing (Shape File) a variable rate “as applied” map from Site Mate and changing the unit of measure to population.

#45 - More Attributes for Yield Data

Farm Works X2 will import more attributes for yield data such as duration and speed. The Date and Time attributes will import directly to the crop record.

#46 - Values Assigned to Harvested Crops
(without Farm Funds)

A market value for harvested crops can now be entered on the harvest dialog box. By entering this number, the program will give you a profit/loss on the Enterprise Statement. In prior versions of Farm Works, the only way to view this information was integrating the Farm Funds program.

#47 - Reduced Steps to Import Soil Test Data

If you have imported soil sample data into Farm Works in the past, you realize the number of steps can be time consuming. Making sure the layer is created and setting up attributes can be a real pain. Erase those memories with Farm Works X2. Simply choose the .txt, .csv, or generic text file containing the soil test results and link it with the shape file containing the soil sample points.

#48 - Merging Point Layers

Have you ever imported point data in the past on separate layers? Have you ever wanted to merge this data on to one layer? Farm Works X2 makes it easy. Simply select the two files under your “Job” tab and select Merge.

#49 Applying Harvest Filter after Imported Yield Data

The Harvest Filter can still be applied after a yield map has been imported. Simply select the Filter button when a yield map is displayed and make the desired changes.

#50 Weather and Field Conditions

Weather and field conditions can now be entered for any farming action in Farm Trac. In previous versions of Farm Works, weather and field conditions could only be entered when applying restricted chemicals to a field. As the demand increases for better records on fertilizer application, such as manure, Farm Trac will now be able to handle it for any input.

#51 Discrete Legends

The Discrete Legend in the “Edit Legends” area is a new handy feature for assigning a colour to a single value. This is especially nice when you have a map (such as a variable rate application map) and want to designate a colour for each rate.

#52 Customizing Decimal Location on Numeric Layers

You can now designate the number of decimal places on numeric layers. This is especially important when printing or viewing maps of soil samples.

#53 Variable Rate Maps are tied to Planned Field Operations

Feature #48 mentions a new prescription map generator tool for developing application maps. To expand this feature, Farm Works X2 will take this map and allow you to integrate a planned job operation. Once completed the job can be synchronized with Trac Mate/Site Mate with one step. By selecting the planned job from the “Unfinished Job/Work orders” list, the variable rate map created for the same field will appear too. Thus reducing the number of steps in the field.

The following image shows an example of entering planning records to a prescription map. Simply select the file from the “Job” tab and choose Properties.

Now select the Add menu and choose Input. Here you can add more supplies, equipment, or labour to your planned farming operation.

When your supplies, equipment, and labour have been added to the variable rate map, simply select Trac Mate to export to the field device. The planned operation with now link with the variable rate map and download to the Trac Mate/Site Mate software.

#54 Planning Summary Report Includes More Costs

When entering planning operations in Farm Works X2, a cost can now be assigned to equipment and personnel. This was not the case in prior version of Farm Works. By entering a projected cost on equipment and personnel, the program will generate a better-projected cost for the field when printing a “Planned Summary Report”.
